Quartet

String Quartet no. 1 began as an exploration into links between two of my favorite forms of music: choral music and percussion music. The four-part texture and similar timbres of the string quartet strongly suggest choral music, but the quartet’s expanded range, rhythmic possibilities, and extended techniques remind me of the rich timbral world of percussion.
