American Landscapes

American Landscapes was my first commission. The Rockville Concert Band asked for a piece that would combine my classical notions with my then-thriving indie rock music. The result was a “concerto grosso” of sorts, a three-movement work for concert band and rock trio of guitar, bass, and drums. The first movement – concert band only – depicted sunrise over Mt. Haleakala in Hawai’i. The second movement – percussion section and trio – was a fast and rollicking ride down the Snake River. The third movement – full ensemble – moved to Appalachia and took the tune “Resignation” from that region as its theme.

As a very old piece, there is no current score or recording. Contact me, though, and I will dig through the archives to put a digital score together…I just need a nudge.
