The Gates of Horn and Ivory

The Gates of Horn and Ivory is a chamber music piece for violin, bass clarinet, and piano. It is a single-movement abstract work that draws from Greek myth for its inspiration. The lines of music are drawn from the idea of dreams passing through the gates that bar the land of Dreams.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

This piece is appropriate for talented performers of violin and bass clarinet. Rhythmically, the piece is fairly free, but the range for each instrument falls into the more-advanced level of play. The piano part is more of an accompaniment part, although it must of course be played with sensitivity and confidence. This download is currently for score only. Players will find the full score useful for practice and performance. Parts may be requested by email, if desired.

Three Anthems for Unaccompanied Choirs

Three Anthems is a collection of short anthems for mixed choirs: a piece for full choir, one for men’s choir, and one for women round out the set. These are my earliest, professional work as a composer, and I am proud to present them here as a set for a quick and easy introduction to my style as a choral composer. Though “young” pieces, all three employ the contrapuntal style that I have continued to refine in my work to this day.

Appropriate for semi-professional church choir or a talented high school or college chamber choir. Sopranos have some high notes, so a section that can support those is desirable.

Trade Winds

Trade Winds is a single-movement piece for a large concert choir and a small African-themed percussion ensemble. The text is an original poem by acclaimed poet Lisa Pegram and is written in a “cleave” form that allows it to be read in several different ways. The cleave is ideal for a four-part choir, and the piece takes full advantage of the form. The text itself is a beautiful affirmation of the earth and the connections that bind all people together.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Appropriate for large chorus of at least 50+ singers. Five percussionists are called for playing on a variety of Western and non-Western percussion. The percussion parts themselves range from amateur to experienced. This download comes on a zip file that contains three versions of the score (one full score, one optimized score, and one choral score) along with five percussion parts.
